Linux F/OSS

Linux distributions by definition are F/OSS. They are the epitome of F/OSS. There is also a huge list of Linux distributions that fall under the F/OSS umbrella so I won’t restate them here.  But there are actually a list of a few application that still have not really been ported to any other platform and may infact not even have ports of all the Linux distributions. Here are some of the ones I use(d) in additional to my staples over at F/OSS Solutions.

GNOME-DoGNOME-Do – I love these keyboard interaction applications. On it’s most basic level it is a keyboard application launcher but once you get into it a little it has the power to do oh so much more. Much like Quicksilver on OS X and Launchy on Windows Gnome-Do has become an application I would not want to live without.

gwibberGwibber – an open source microblogging client for GNOME developed with Python and GTK. It supports Twitter, Jaiku, Identi.ca, Facebook, Flickr, Digg, and RSS. It’s important to note that Gwibber is not another IM client and is not designed to do “real time” instant messaging. Or at least it wasn’t at the time of this posting. The wonderful thing about Open Source is that functionality like IM may one day be intergrated into Gwibber if someone feels they have a need for it.
